Getting StartedFirst Run Wizard

First Run Wizard

The first-run wizard walks you through creating the foundational pieces you need to run your first show. Each step introduces a core concept and asks you to configure it.

First run wizard - organization selection

Wizard Steps

1. Organization Visibility

Choose which organizations are relevant to your events. All organizations start as shown - toggle off any you don’t need. This declutters all dropdowns and pickers throughout the app. You can change these settings at any time from the Organization tab. See Organization Visibility for details.

2. Create a Season

Seasons are date boundaries for calculating points across multiple shows. You’ll set a name, start date, and end date. Show dates must fall within the season’s timeframe.

3. Create a Show Template

Show templates store reusable settings like venue details, fees, and rules. You can have multiple templates for different venues or event styles. Configure at least one template to use when creating shows.

4. Configure Organizations

Organizations like IBRA, NBHA, WPRA, BBR, IPRA, BFA, and MYTRA each have their own scoring and payback rules. SpeedySteeds includes these common organizations pre-configured - you can use them as-is or customize them. A rider can belong to as many organizations as are defined, and a single show can use one organization’s payback settings while calculating points for multiple organizations.

5. Set Up Event Formats

Event formats define the specific settings for each event - age groups, payout percentages, drag intervals, and more. SpeedySteeds includes preset formats that cover common event configurations.

6. Create a Show

Finally, create your first show within the season you just created. Each show can have multiple events, and each event uses one of the event formats you configured. Events can be configured with entry fees and added money.

If the show runs more than one day, toggle “Multi Day” and set an end date. The Schedule card on the show form will then show one row per day so you can set a different show start time, expo window, or no expo at all on each day. The first row is seeded from the selected show template; you can edit each day independently.

You can skip any step in the wizard and complete the setup later from the main application. The wizard is a convenience for getting started quickly - everything it creates can be edited afterward.

After the Wizard

Once the wizard is complete, you’re ready to:

  1. Add riders to your database
  2. Register riders for events
  3. Generate a draw order
  4. Enter results on show day
